You're interested in Google Cardboard and got questions? You've purchased a Cardboard Kit from us and need help? You don't know what kind of cardboard fits your phone best? So please check out our cardboard FAQ or feel free to ask us your questions directly. We'd love to help you.

What is Google Cardboard?

Google Cardboard is the most recent ultra-affordable VR experience. As Virtual Reality has become one of the most impressive media evolutions right now, the Google Cardboard project involves everyone to be part of it – in a simple, fun and inexpensive way.

What do I need it for?

All you need for entering immersive 360° virtual worlds is your smart phone and the Cardboard viewer itself. Just take one of our Cardboard Kit, fold it, put your phone inside it and start an app or video. Your phone will show you two slightly different pictures that will be merged into one stereoscopic image when you're looking through the two lenses.

Your head movements are measured by the accelerometer in your phone (head tracker), which allows you to navigate and interact in virtual worlds using no other input device than your head. If you look up, the displayed world will follow your movements, if you look backward, the image will also follow. That's the whole trick.

Is it dangerous?

Nope. Just make sure you sit comfortably (e.g. on a nice swivel chair to avoid neck cramps) or stand in a wide open space. Sometimes people feel a bit uncomfortable for the first time - just like sitting in a roller coaster. Advantage compared to a real roller coaster is: You will always be able to leave the virtual one.

Is my phone compatible with Cardboard?

Basically, Google Cardboard works with every smart phone that is able to run virtual reality apps, so the most of modern Android phones (Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or above) and iPhones will do. Most of Windows Phones are also able to run VR apps. A full list of Goggle Cardboard compatible smart phones is shown here.

Where can I find VR content?

Good start is the official Google Cardboard app. Next, you'll find tons of VR and other Cardboard compatible apps all over your favorite stores (Play Store, Apple Store). Also we've set up an app section at our website you're invited to check out.

Can I use headphones?

Yes, and you should. Use earphones to maximize your immersion in VR. You'll find dozens upon dozens of scary apps out there taking full effect by adding a thrilling soundscape to the imagery.

I wear glasses already. Can I still use Cardboard?

Yes, Version 2 should do the job. As the Version 1 cardboard kit comes up with slightly smaller measurements, you may want to cut flaps into both sides of the viewer. But since it's Cardboard, it's not a big intervention.

What is the Cardboard Version 2 about?

The new Cardboard Version 2 was unveiled at Google I/O 2015. It supports larger phones with screens up to 6 inches. It has a new conductive input button that works with any phone. And it assembles (and disassembles) in just 3 steps. Bigger lenses allow a broader field of view. Like the first Cardboard, it‘s still about VR for everyone.

And what is Version 3?

The Version 3 cardboard (and the Version 3 XXL) is a special design we've made for even bigger smart phones like the Samsung Note. As mentioned above, have a look at our compatible smart phone list for clearing up the details.

What are the magnets for (Version 1)?

The magnetic snap lock of V1 cardboards works as an input for your phone as well as locking mechanism of the cardboard itself. When you pull down the button, the magnetometer of your phone detects a change in the magnetic field and handles the change as a click. Some apps use this to get started or to perform actions. But since not all phones are able to detect magnetic triggers properly, most of recent released apps currently don't have a urgent need for magnetic pulls.

Does my smart phone fit in your Cardboard?

Our classic V1 Cardboard kits support phones with screens up to 5.5 inches (e.g. Apple iPhone 6), the V2 Cardboard supports screen sizes up to 6.0 inches. Please have a firm look at our compatible smart phone list.

What are the dimensions?

Our V1 Cardboard kit is packed in an fancy DIN A5 sleeve of only 15mm thickness - just the right size for cost efficient shipping. Cardboard itself is 76 x 135 x 80 mm (unpacked and assembled). The V2 Cardboard measures 90 x 145 x 55 mm.
